APPAREL DESIGN |
ideation - concept development
The beginning of any successful apparel design project is an outstanding idea. Understanding your customer, creating an imaginative concept, and designing exciting garments, are the keys to profitable sales. Shown here are samples of original design & color concepts that were used as the basis for men's, women's, children's and specialty apparel.
apparel design
As designs concepts are developed, they give way to apparel projects that meet the customer demographic, as well as their desired aesthetic and appropriate end use. But just because a designer must follow strict criteria to meet profitable manufacturing margins, it does not mean that the end product is unimaginative or stale. Shown here are samples of original apparel designs for the active lifestyle.
patternmaking
Every successful apparel design must have a solid base. Skilled patternmaking is often unappreciated, but it is the essential foundation for profitable garment sales. Garment fit is the single biggest reason that customers purchase apparel and it is also the single biggest reason for customer returns. You must be assured that your apparel designs will have accurate, industry accepted blocks and patterns for your manufacturing processes.
product development
Apparel design has its roots in product demand. The features a customer needs and wants are just part of the equation. You also need to know what they expect to pay for each product and how to make all those customer's expectations profitable. Apparel product development is a collaboration of the creative designer, technical designer, marketing and merchandising departments. Often, a single person, known as an Apparel Product Developer, will act as the liaison between these important individual components.
